Seattle's Soundgarden Sites
A few of our favorite Soundgarden-centric sites and events in Seattle from our trips over the years.
We returned to Seattle in May of 2024 with Momgarden. Since it was her first time, we mostly hit up the usual places and didn’t venture out much time this time around.
Figured we’d still share the usual sites anyway…
Holy Cow Records @ Pike Place Market
Holy Cow Records in Pike Place Market always has posters and photo prints for Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, and Alice in Chains. Their one signed Audioslave poster is essentially not for sale now that it’s the only one left, but it does sometimes have a $5,000 price tag under it (but not last time in May 2024).
Any rare records are typically hard to find here just because it’s attached to a main tourist destination so they are snatched up pretty quickly.
We did once buy a damaged Ultramega OK record from here for $5 and now use it as a decorative piece in our “Soundgarden Room”.
We also have a rather large Down On The Upside promotional piece that is signed with the Chris silhouette saying “Thanx Jeff!” in a text bubble - which we clearly had to get (back in 2008).
Easy Street Records & Chris Cornell Mural Clean-up
The Chris Cornell mural outside the store had been heavily vandalized so Meghan went to a nearby art store and purchased some acrylic paint to cover up some of the graffiti. We received a little bit of mixed feedback (mostly positive) about that response but the mural’s original artist did “like” one of the posts so we figure it’s okay.
Note that the photos with Meghan and the writing not appearing on the face were taken after her cleanup. The 1 picture of me in front of the statue was edited with Google’s Magic Editor to remove the graffiti digitally.
Hotel Max
Hotel Max features portraits from grunge bands throughout the hotel, including a floor dedicated to Sub Pop with their doors fully covered with artist portraits and records and a record player in the rooms.
The hotel lobby has some portraits as well and regularly mixes in some grunge classics in their lobby’s music playlist

Queen Anne Store closure
On January 2, 2013, owner Matt Vaughan announced the closure of Easy Street's Queen Anne store, effective January 18, 2013. Vaughan cited a significant increase in rent as the primary reason for the closure. In his statement Vaughan added that Chase Bank would be the new tenant. On closing night, Yo La Tengo played to a packed house for the final in-store at the Queen Anne location.[12]

They were much more strict about taking photos and our smartphone at the time was the iPhone 3G, so the photos aren’t too great, unfortunately, which sucks because this is when they had the most Soundgarden representation from all the times we’ve visited.
